Hexagon FAQ
How is VISI licensed?
VISI is licensed as a modular, PC-based CAD/CAM system consisting of 12 functional modules, including CAD, Mould, Progressive Die, CAM (2.5D, 3D, and 5-axis), Simulation, and Reverse Engineering.

The modular structure allows teams to license only the modules required for their specific workflows.
Are trial versions available?
VISI does not offer a standard trial version.
As a PC-based CAD/CAM system, evaluation is carried out in a project-based setup using real parts and workflows, reflecting how the software is used in practice.
How well does VISI support complex geometry and freeform surfaces?
VISI is designed to handle complex shapes and freeform surfaces as a core part of the system.
It supports robust surface and solid modelling, reliable management of imported CAD data, and stable handling of complex geometry.

VISI provides:

– Optimized HSC machining strategies
– Smooth, collision-checked toolpaths
– Stable surface and volume-based machining for consistent results

Complex freeform areas are a standard use case within VISI workflows.

How does VISI support process continuity and automation in manufacturing?

VISI supports continuous use of CAD and CAM data across manufacturing processes, enabling structured and repeatable process definition.

Within manufacturing workflows, VISI allows:

– Reuse of CAD geometry and machining data across downstream processes
– Consistent definition of machining strategies and process parameters
– Preparation of CAM output for automated and machine-specific workflows, including EDM
– Continued use of data within production, measurement, and validation steps

This supports more efficient process definition and enables automation concepts based on consistent, reusable manufacturing data.

Which interfaces does VISI support?

VISI provides bi-directional translators for common CAD formats, allowing data exchange with other CAD and CAM systems.

Supported formats include:

– STEP and IGES
– Parasolid
– Native formats from CATIA, NX, SOLIDWORKS, and other major CAD systems

This supports reliable import and export of CAD data within heterogeneous engineering environments.

Why Choose Hexagon Laser Trackers?

Capabilities That Keep Your Measurement Accurate and Fast

Three Capabilities That Transform Large-Scale Inspection

Maintain measurement even when line-of-sight is interrupted. PowerLock automatically re-establishes laser lock, eliminating resets and keeping inspection workflows moving.

PowerLock Continuous Tracking

Measure both position and orientation simultaneously with trackless probing. Capture complex features with full freedom of movement - without rigid setups or constraints.

6DoF Measurement Freedom

Direct Scanning for Large Structures

Capture dense surface data from a distance using ATS800 direct scanning. Inspect large or hard-to-reach assemblies without targets, scaffolding or workflow interruptions.
